Information of Olvorin Leucovorin Injection

Olvorin Leucovorin injection is used to prevent harmful effects of methotrexate .when methotrexate is used to to treat certain types of cancer.

Olvorin  leucovorin is used to treat persons who have received an overdose of methotrexate or similar drugs by accident. Anemia induced by low folic acid levels in the body is also treated with leucovorin injection. Colorectal cancer is also treated with leucovorin injection and 5-fluorouracil. Leucovorin injection belongs to the folic acid analogues class of drugs. It helps persons who are taking methotrexate by shielding healthy cells from the drug’s side effects. It heals anaemia by providing folic acid, which is required for the production of red blood cells. It increases the effects of 5-fluorouracil, which is used to treat colorectal cancer..

Olvorin Leucovorin injection site effects (pain, swelling, redness) are the most  common negative effects of this medication. Let your doctor know if these irritate you or appear to be serious. It’s possible that they can be reduced or prevented. Blood tests are necessary on a regular basis to assess your blood cells and serum methotrexate content.

If you have seizures, liver or kidney problems, or are on any antibiotics, tell your doctor before taking it. Many other drugs can interact with or be impacted by this one, so tell your doctor about all of your prescriptions, notably phenytoin for seizures. Benefits of Olvorin Leucovorin Injection

In Prevention of Harmful effects of methotrexate :
Leucovorin Injection protects body cells against the side effects of methotrexate, a cancer-fighting drug. It’s a type of vitamin B that’s administered after methotrexate has been taken for 24 hours. This ensures that methotrexate has accomplished its anti-cancer effects, as well as preventing additional side effects such as anaemia, with leucovorin Injection

How Olvorin Leucovorin Injection Works

Leucovorin is a vitamin-like molecule that is similar to folic acid. It has been around for decades and is still in use. Leucovorin is a chemotherapeutic medicine that is usually used in conjunction with  methotrexate. Leucovorin is not a chemotherapy treatment in and of itself; it is used in conjunction with other chemotherapy drugs to boost anti-cancer effects  or to help prevent or mitigate side effects.

Methotrexate’s chemotherapy action is based on its ability to neutralise and compete with folic acid in cancer cells, inducing folic acid shortage and cell death. This activity also affects normal cells, resulting in low white, red, and platelet blood cell counts, hair loss, mouth sores, difficulty swallowing, diarrhea, and damage to the liver, lungs, nerves, and kidneys. The use of Leucovorin, which supplies a source of folic acid for the body’s cells, can either prevent or reduce these methotrexate issues and side effects. Leucovorin is usually begun 24 hours after methotrexate has been administered. This time delay allows methotrexate to work its anti-cancer effects.

Leucovorin is also used by itself to treat certain anemia problems when folic acid deficiency is present.
